But, first, let me tell you about lunch. Yes, I'm going to be talking about food, and not much else, until Spring. I made red lentil soup with the tomatoes I froze over the summer. Most of you are already aware of the recipe I'm talking about...the famous "Eat to Live" lentil soup recipe, where you cook red lentils in water (I use some "better than bouillion" to add a bit of flavor) for 30 minutes, than add tomatoes and celery and cook another 15. It's so simple and yet you would never know how rich and yummy it tastes until you try it. This time though, I decided to give it a bit of a mexican flair. I didn't put the celery in, though I did add onions and garlic at the beginning (I guess I always do that). Then I made cornbread. And then I topped it with cheddar cheese and avocados and threw in some tabasco sauce. Yum! Here's a picture:
Tonight, I am experimenting with a whole grain pizza dough. I'm running out of white flour and though I just got back from Hannaford, I couldn't find a little basket so I could only buy what I could carry, and between the wine and the moisterizer (2 of winter's most essential products), I just couldn't lug a big ol bag of king arthur around... SO, I have buckwheat flour in the pantry (why, I can't quite recall), and whole wheat flour, and oh, even a bit o rye flour, and some vital wheat gluten (I don't even know what it is, and yet, I have it). So I googled a recipe and found one, that also included soy flour (which surprise, surprise I do NOT have), so I altered it a bit. It's attempting to rise right now.
I intend to put some mashed up butternut squash as a "white sauce" that I had frozen last year...time to definitely get rid of last year's stores! Then I'm going to saute up some garlic, onion, broccoli, and bok choy and put that on top. First, I am supposed to bake the crust for 5 minutes (don't let me forget!) and then I'll top with some mozzarella cheese...anything else I should put on? Oh! I do have a few shitake mushrooms. I can't make anything without putting mushrooms on lately.
I'll post a picture soon. I know your'e on the edge of your seats.
What else? I bought a light weight jacket from Reny's tonight. A Woolrich. The Woolrich brand really started twinkling in my eye once I saw it in the Sundance Catalog, the king of catalogs full of things I can't afford. The chance of finding a deal on a Sundance product at Reny's got me all excited and I lost all perspective and spent $130 on a not very wintry coat. It's red and plaid and has a hood. And I DID need a mid weight jacket. I won't bore you with all my rationalizations. The fact of the matter is: I spent money and I feel guilty about it. And yet, now I have a nice jacket. End of story. (Yes, this will keep me awake at night with buyer's remorse.)
I made some pretty awesome earrings today. If you haven't friended LoveLarisa Jewelry Designs on Facebook yet, please do. You can even find a 15% off coupon. I've decided to buy a kiln for Precious Metal Clay in January. I'd like to do it now, but I think I will start actually tracking things in 2012..you know, things like sales, and material costs, etc. for tax purposes. So I hear I can claim my expenses and get some sort of a credit or something. But of course, then I have to pay sales tax and income tax. Sounds complicated I KNOW. But if I can deduct $1000 for a kiln, then I suppose it's worth the time trying to figure it out. Besides, the cost of the materials and stuff really adds up, so it might be to my advantage. And I plan to make A LOT of sales next year. Retirement Here I Come!
Well, that's about all the news from B-ham. We are going on our European River Cruise in just a few short weeks. I'm wicked excited. Hey, and now I have a mid-weight jacket to wear on my vacation! Yay, rationalization complete. No remorseful sleepless night tonight!
will post a picture of the pizza soon.
